What is your Christmas eve tradition as children?
For us it was spreading magic reindeer food ( dry oats coated with glitter) in the yard, having hot choc. with a cin. stick in it while listening to a tape of the Christmas story, and then getting to open one present before we went to bed. Of course it was a small one lol.
It was of course edible, I just asked my mother and it wasn’t glitter…it was colored sugar sprinkles.
When I was growing up, we never really had much of a Christmas Eve tradition. My dad and I would watch tv, and Mom would be slaving away in the kitchen, getting a head-start on Christmas dinner. When I got older, I’d help her. The closest thing I had to a tradition (which I still do today!) was staying up to watch the news to see where Santa had been “spotted.” That was so exciting and magical! Then Dad would tell me I better get to bed, cause Santa would be here soon, and of course he won’t stop if you’re not asleep!
I also had a Christmas album, which it’s a wonder I didn’t wear out, I played it so much through the Christmas season!
I did more to have traditions when my kids were small. They always got to wear their new Christmas p.j.s (I’d wrap them and let the kids open them, lol), and we’d watch Christmas movies and make popcorn. After we saw where Santa was at on the news, it was off to bed for them! Pretty simple, but they seemed to enjoy it. Must have, my daughter does it with her son!
I’m concerned about wildlife eating glitter. Can’t be good for them. I think I would suggest to anyone who has this tradition to invest in edible glitter, or some other animal-safe alternative (sugar crystals, maybe?), cause you know that “magic reindeer food” is being eaten! Other than that, your traditions sound grand! Merry Christmas!
