How to train a cockatiel to perch on your finger?

I have a young cockatiel, and she feels comfortable when I stroked his head, but she gets very scared when I put my finger near his feet. I want that land on my finger.

I had the same problem with the cockatiel I am encouraging a couple of weeks ago. But he was beaten with a double blow, because she is blind in both eyes part. I tried several of my own methods, but once it got treatment education of the step up was a piece of cake! I safflower seeds to train her, but any favorite topic, such as spray millet, can be used. (Note: Due to safflower their main food was the first time that makes pellets, the younger the bird the easier it is to convert) For first foot touches the bird a little, (if that is not possible to simply place your finger near it and inch closer) and then verbally praise and reward with treatment (P & R). Do this several times and try to keep the bird comfroable during the process. If he gets upset, stop. Wait for another time in the day to start again. Sessions should be no more than 15 minutes, preferably 10 or less for a first tiel. It will be very slow for the first of several sessions, but once you do not mind be touched his feet slip your finger in the foot so that one foot is on it, P & R. Now you can add in the "Step Up" command and soon he will be in your finger. TIP: To encourage a bird to lift your other foot towards you, push back and up, this helps to back off the perch. As a side note, have always a cool head and cheerful attitude during training. You will be amazed at the difference it makes in your bird attitude.
