Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) is its own system of medicine, utilizing its own diagnosis, treatment principles and protocols.  TCM healing modalities includes acupuncture as well as herbal medicine, tui na (Chinese medical massage) and dietary therapy.  It is estimated that Traditional Chinese Medicine dates back from four to five thousand years ago.  Practitioners of TCM view and treat each patient as an individual according to their TCM pattern as opposed to treating the disease itself.  We do not isolate symptoms but rather treat the root cause in order to eliminate the symptom.

 

Acupuncture

Acupuncture is based on the meridian systems that run throughout the body from head to toe.  These meridians connect the major organs and organ systems in one continuous pathway.   Running through the meridians is our Qi or vital energy or life force.  If there is an obstruction or blockage of the Qi we then experience illness, pain or dis-ease.  To achieve and maintain our most optimal health there must be a free flow of Qi.  By choosing specific acupuncture points on certain meridians we can affect both the flow of the Qi as well as the internal functioning of the body and its organs.  This allows the body to return to or maintain its most optimal state.

Acupuncture uses very fine, solid filiform needles.  They are sterilized and used one time only and then disposed of.  Most patients do not feel the insertion of the needle because they are so small.  Once all the needles are in place many patients experience a very calm, peaceful and relaxing sensation and may even fall asleep during the treatment.  Traditional Chinese Medicine and acupuncture are all about keeping the body balanced.  The number of treatments needed varies based on the individual needs of each patient.  This will be discussed during your consultation and first treatment.

 

 

Acupuncture Injection Therapy

Acupuncture Injection Therapy (AIT) uses TCM treatment protocols with the use of sterile and natural injectable substances.  Examples are vitamins or FDA approved herbal or homeopathic remedies.  AIT is used most often for both acute and chronic pain management, facial rejuvenation and to enhance the effects of acupuncture or herbal medicine.  Most of these injections are done subcutaneously or just below the surface of the skin.  The injection locations are based on traditional acupuncture points and depend on the nature of the patient’s condition and TCM diagnosis.
