Can I get a performance type camshaft for my car?
Hello, I have a 1999 V6 3.8L Camaro. The car is pretty fast even though it’s a V6. It’s just about faster than the V8′s from the 80′s. It has open headers, etc….
anyway, if anyone is familiar with this make and model, how much would it cost for one of those Thumper Cams that sound good. Would I have to have my whole engine taken out?
You would need to clear out everything in front of the engine if you were to try to stab in the new cam with the engine in the car. Its a bit involved, but you may want to think about that as opposed to trying to lift the engine out of the bay – its a bit annoying with that cowl overlap. When we did my LT1 (95 Z28 – also a fourth gen), I dropped the entire k-member, since its easier – six mounting bolts (as I remember), and the whole front drops off the car – good if you have a lift!
