I was self-taught shiatsu with a book many years ago before it became a Reiki practitioner. There is actually a "massage" but a series of pressures of the fingers or hand along the energy meridians. I use my fingers because I can get more pressure on them. Check out this link to see a series of books on the topic is http://www.amazon.com/Complete-Book-Shiatsu-Therapy-Fingertips/dp/087040461X sure to read the "opinions of the readers some idea how easy the book is to work. Good luck!
