Can the side effects of patches for pain relief cause serious or permanent?

My nan was taken to hospital last night with side effects of pain relief patches and stay in she was sick, had high blood pressure and was very disoriented. I wonder if anyone knows what could be wrong. Could this cause any serious problems? Should I worry? I heard a doctor say they are investivating tbsp (or at least it sounded like to me), does anyone know what this is? I Google and found nothing. You may have missheared but am hoping that someone with medical knowledge can understand what he was saying.

Yes you can, I am the fentanyl patch. The first patch had a gelatinous substance in two layers, but now have fought it and the new are like see-through plasters.
