Shampoo Bath

Shampoo Bath
what would happen if you gave a dog a bath with human shampoo?

My dad gave my Corgi a bath with Dove shampoo. I know Corgis shed a lot, but will he shed even more?

It is perfectly all right to bathe a dog with human shampoo as long as you use a non-medicated shampoo and it is pH balanced. The pH balanced part is important. It should say “pH balanced” on the label. If it does not, call the toll free number on the label and ask if it is pH balanced.

It is not okay to use a detergent, such as dishwashing liquid, on a dog. A detergent will strip the natural oils from the coat.

If you have any doubts, just get a dog shampoo at your local pet shop or feed store.

Dogs will shed more after a bath. Some people use bathing as a way to speed up the shedding process so as to get it over with more quickly. If you bathe the dog once a week, it will shed more heavily but for fewer weeks than usual.

It is not recommended to bathe a dog more than once a week unless directed to do so by your veterinarian but if a dog rolled in something awful, I’d go ahead and bathe it again.
