does anyone have an introduction to variable dc power supply?

a variable dc power supply is realy usefull tool in consturcting a circuit. which works on dc supply converted from a AC supply which is usely 110v-240v. it is used for dc circuits to produce a required voltage which is not fixed like 5v, 9v, 12v and 15v fixed battery voltage so a step down transformer is required to step down that ac 110-240v. have a look on
